The idea for a public park in the Eagles Landing area has come up in discussions for several years. The city of Stockbridge has secured property for this to now happen.
The twelve-acre property is owned by Henry County Water Authority. Stockbridge has a 20-year lease for use as a passive park.
New Park in Eagles Landing
The Stockbridge council adopted a parks master plan in September 2024. It provided recommendations to improve the city’s existing parks. Those being Clark, Memorial and Gardner Parks. It also recommended new parks. Specifically, a presentation in August 2023 recommended the city pursue five new community parks. This included up to three new parks in Eagles Landing. Altogether, the plan recommends the city adds 156 acres of additional park space by 2034.
According to Stockbridge Councilman Alexander, who represents the Eagles Landing area, the park will feature walking trails, outdoor exercise equipment and a dog park. Other amenities are to be determined. One thought could be for Stockbridge to apply for the outdoor fitness court grant which Henry County and McDonough have received.
The twelve acres are located on Village Business Parkway. It is behind DePoe Eye Center. This is off Eagles Landing Parkway. The water authority has owned the property since at least 1987. They approved a 20-year lease agreement with Stockbridge in August 2024. In exchange, the city provided a sewer easement across city property.
A timeframe for the park’s construction is not immediately available.
