The McDonough council has approved moving forward with plans for a new outdoor fitness court. The court’s installation is partially-funded by a grant. The city’s ARPA funds will cover the remaining costs.

The city council considered the fitness court at their October 21 meeting. The outdoor court is through the National Fitness Campaign. Their website offers the following description about the court:
The Fitness Court – The World’s Best Outdoor Gym
The Fitness Court® is designed to provide a full body workout in only seven minutes, all for free in the great outdoors. Rotate through all seven zones: Core, Squat, Push, Lunge, Pull, Agility and Bend on The Fitness Court® for a circuit training workout that will have you full of energy.

The organization will contribute $30 thousand towards the cost of installing an outdoor court. Remaining costs to the city have an estimate of $248,500. This includes the purchase cost, concrete pad for its foundation and install costs. McDonough will use ARPA funding for this purchase.
In a presentation made during the council meeting, McDonough Parks Director Brandon Williams expressed the city’s goal to install the new court in spring 2025. Specifically, they plan to install it in March-April. The city hopes to open it by May 2025.
The location of the fitness court is TBD. Williams shared he submitted five possible locations. The National Fitness Campaign found all five locations were suitable options. The city has not shared the possible locations.
Henry County Parks & Recreation opened a similar outdoor fitness court in July 2024. It is located at JP Moseley Park in Stockbridge.
