Earlier this year, Henry County approved a grant application for Willow Lane widening among other projects. Its back to the drawing board to figure out next steps after the county’s applications did not receive funds.

The city of Hampton also had an application not selected. Almost all of the selected recipients had applied for a loan; whereas, local entities sought only a grant.

Willow Lane Widening Grant Application

In January of this year, Henry County applied for the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) grant. They submitted three projects:

  • Willow Lane widening, preliminary engineering
  • Mill Road widening, preliminary engineering
  • East Atlanta Road resurfacing

In each case, the county had applied for a grant between $1.2–2 million dollars. Henry County offered a 20% match if the state selected their grant application.

The city of Hampton applied for $900 thousand to assist with the McDonough Street roundabout project. It’s located at the junction with Hampton-Locust Grove Road. They offered $380 thousand in T-SPLOST funds as a local match.

GTIB Recipients

The state announced this year’s GTIB recipients on Tuesday, June 27. The Henry County and Hampton projects are not among the recipients.

The state awarded seven projects. Of those, all but one received a loan. The only grant-only recipient was from a rural area, Monroe County, for a bridge replacement. That amount was about $800,000.

Other projects will receive as much as $5 million dollars, but through a state loan. They must repay those funds over time.
