Henry County HEAT Unit Wins New Dodge Durango

The Henry County HEAT unit won a new 2022 Dodge Durango. In addition, Henry County submitted its application for the program’s FY24 grant funding.

The purpose of the HEAT program is to enforce driving under the influence, speeding and occupant safety laws. The Henry County HEAT unit is comprised of one sergeant and three officers.

New Dodge Durango

The Henry County HEAT unit attended the Governor’s Challenge Awards in December 2022. During the event, the unit to drawn to win a fully equipped 2022 Dodge Durango. The vehicle had an original purchase price of $34 thousand.

Henry County approved accepting the award during the January 17 board meeting. There is no cost to the county for the vehicle.

FY 2024 Grant

Also on January 17, the county approved its application for HEAT unit funding next year. The HEAT unit is funded partially through the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. HEAT stands for Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic.

The state grant funds 40% of the salaries, training, travel and regular operating expenses for the unit. County funds cover the remaining 60%. Henry County has been a recipient of the HEAT unit grant for more than a decade.
