School District buys new scoreboards, classroom equipment

The Henry County School Board held their monthly meeting on November 14. During the meeting, the board approved about $2 million dollars worth of new athletic scoreboards and classroom equipment.

The classroom equipment includes elementary school STEM lab furniture as well as K-12 arts equipment. Several high schools will also receive updated computers and tech equipment for their technology and film classrooms.

New Scoreboards

Electro-Mech Scoreboard Company of Wrightsville, GA will be supplying 26 new scoreboards at a cost of $589,042.00. The new scoreboards include the following:

  • 9 football
  • 9 softball
  • 6 baseball
  • 2 basketball

Earlier this year in August, the school board set aside $4 million dollars for facilities equipment, athletic equipment growth and replacement. The cost of new scoreboards will be paid from these funds.

Elementary School STEM Lab Furniture

Increasing STEM opportunities within elementary schools is part of the district’s five-year strategic plan. At the beginning of the year, the district purchased grades 3-5 robotics equipment. Now, the school board approved furniture for new STEM labs.

Ernie Morris Enterprises, Inc. of Cumming, GA will provide the following:

  • 28 teacher chairs,
  • 28 teacher desks,
  • 504 student stools,
  • 252 science tables,
  • 336 student desks, and
  • 336 student chairs.

The furniture cost totals $299,171.79. The capital project funds referenced above will pay for the items.

Arts Equipment

In addition, Henry County Schools is investing in new equipment for arts classrooms at all grade levels. The purchase includes several vendors, listed below:

  • Blick – $245,833.50
  • Nasco – $77,379.70
  • Ernie Morris – $83,250.00
  • Bailey Pottery Equipment & Ceramic Supply – $80,100.00
  • School Specialty – $56,965.36

The total cost, $543,528.56, will be paid using education SPLOST funds.

Film Classrooms

Finally, several high schools offer technology and film classrooms as an elective pathway. This purchase will complete updates of the computers and tech equipment within such classrooms.

Specifically, this purchase applies to the Academy for Advanced Studies, Hampton High School, Eagles Landing High School and Stockbridge High School. Other schools that offer the tech and film elective saw upgrades a year ago.

  • Apple – $188,546.35 (Computers & iPads)
  • Amitrace of Suwanee, GA – $404,890.83 (Tech equipment)

Education SPLOST funds will contribute towards the purchase cost.
