The McDonough council meets later this month on Monday, November 21. During their meeting, they are expected to vote whether to approve a rezoning request to support a new Chick-fil-A restaurant within the city. In addition, an applicant proposing drive-thru restaurants at Wesley Lakes Blvd withdrew their request.
Chick-fil-A Vote
Chick-fil-A is proposing a new location at the corner of highway 20 and Willow Lane. The property is presently home to a QT service station. To support their request, they need a zoning change from C-2 (central commercial) to C-3 (highway commercial). This is because McDonough ordinances require C-3 zoning for a drive-thru.
The McDonough council expects to vote on the rezoning request during the November 21 meeting. They tabled the matter in October so that the city’s planning commission could consider it. The planning board did not have a quorum during its October meeting. The planning commission meets on Tuesday, November 15, to consider the item.
If the city approves the request, then the new Chick-fil-A would compliment — not replace — the existing location on Avalon Parkway. A unique aspect of the new location would be a drive-thru only model. There would be no indoor seatings available. Construction could begin in 2023 after QuikTrip vacants the property. A new QT is concurrently under construction closer to the interstate.
Wesley Lakes applicant
Also within the city of McDonough, an applicant on Wesley Lakes Blvd withdrew their rezoning request. The applicant had requested a zoning change to allow up to two fast food restaurants at the corner of Jonesboro Road and Wesley Lakes Blvd. Other retail space was also part of the proposed project.
The applicant, Albireo Real Estate Investments, LLC, notified the city in October they would be withdrawing their application. The property retains its C-2 zoning for now.
